On
22nd March 2008, we will be interviewing Lishi Grand Master, Desmond
Murray for an exclusive mp3 recording.
Affectionately
known as 'Laoba', which means 'Old Man', Mr Murray is the direct
inheritor from Grandmaster Chee Soo of a system of Daoist exercises
for improving health and wellbeing.
He has practised
these Arts for over thirty-six years and has been responsible
for more than five thousand people benefitting from the Daoist
Arts of Lishi.
Since 1994,
Mr Murray has been the President of the International Daoist Society.
The IDS or ITS as it was known was formed on the foundations that
were originally laid down by Professor Chan Kam Lee who started
the first Daoist Arts School in London in 1930. The Presidency
was continued by Grand Master Chee Soo from 1954. Chee Soo passed
the Presidency to Mr Murray before his death in 1994.
As President
of the IDS he is responsible for maintaining the quality standards
for Lishi throughout the world and Mr Murray is regularly called
upon to teach at Lishi classes throughout the UK, France, Germany,
Holland, Denmark, the USA and China.
The quality
of his own practice has been recognised at the highest levels
in China where he was asked to be Overseas President for the Weihai
Wushu Association. This is a very special link between the town
where Lishi originates and Leeds, the home of Lishi today. Mr
Murray also has links with Daoists in China at the highest levels.
He is Principal
of The College of Chinese Physical Culture, a registered charity
which, since 1998 has been responsible for the Daoist Arts of
Lishi being taught in schools, companies and community organisations
to teenagers at risk of exclusion, unemployed adults, employees
and senior executives.
He has successfully
worked to get the learning and skills gained from practising Lishi
recognised nationally by the Government. Today, thousands of people
who have studied Lishi have qualifications reflecting the transferable
life skills gained. These include the first ever GCSE in Performing
Arts based on the practice of Traditional Wushu as well as an
Access to Higher Education Programme, Sports Coaching and Problem
Solving qualifications.
Now YOU have
a unique opportunity to ask your burning questions about Lishi
to the man most qualified to answer.
The questions
we receive will form the basis for the interview so if there's
something about Daoism or about Lishi that you'd like to ask then...
